I don't know what happened to the quality.
I have used this brand for my business many times with no problem but the last 5 pound bag I received has small brown pieces all over it. I suspect they are pieces of cardboard, but I'm not sure. Hope it's not worse. Unfortunately, this product is quite expensive for throwing away £5.
