The set contains many beautiful accessories for decorating the cake. The glaze dispenser in tubes (Decorator Plus) is particularly handy and practical. How good is a checkerboard pattern? Well, it will take some practice. On the first try, the colors merged and crossed through the dividers, making it look more like a marbled pattern than a clear checkerboard. On the second try, the colors stayed crisp, but the layers weren't high enough, making the checkered squares look more like flat rectangles. If you want to recreate beautiful photo examples, you need to adjust the height of the layer to the width of the squares. All in all this is a good set. Most of the accessories are useful even if you don't build a chess board. Just don't expect a checkerboard pattern to be perfect without trial runs.
