I was able to run this fairly quickly (30 minutes) on a V1 Model B Rasp Pi using Adafruit's "Easy Install" instructions and a custom Adafruit Wheezy distribution. I don't know why, but I ended up having to use a self-powered USB hub. Without them, the screen backlight would flicker even when I was powering the system from a desktop PSU (which never showed more than 0.5A). With the hub, the display is stable and bright enough at maximum brightness (controlled by PWM). A note: although one of the pictures shows a ribbon cable, it is not included. However, it comes with a 20x2 header. Buying through Revain was significantly cheaper than buying directly from Adafruit just because of the shipping cost. Since this product is clearly advertised as an Adafruit product, I hope and assume that Adafruit was involved in this purchase.
