Worthy replacement for the Panny "DMR-H " series hard drive

Over the past decade I have had several models of Panasonic DMR series hard drives. When ATSC started broadcasting, I added adapters and used composite inputs. Anyone who has owned a Pannies knows that all parts are proprietary except for the hard drives themselves. If that fails, enter the I Know Someone world. Magnavox 537H is a good car. Editing programs is no easier than in Panny. Both could use an infrared keyboard instead of messing around with a regular remote control. The Magnavox/Philips/Funai installation is different (all from the same company, all with similar products), but no better or worse. Just different. A few obvious failings: 1. No schedule. He hardly knows what he is recording, let alone what will happen later. It's not clear why this is the case, as many basic TVs can give you more information. 2. No DVD-RAM support. If you don't use them, I can understand why you're confused. These are random access hard drives designed to retain data for 50 years. And you can move items between HDD and DVD-RAM discs. Yes, they cost ten times more than DVD-Rs. But a choice would be nice. 3. The same problem with branded fills inside. 4. Would it be that difficult to install an ethernet port that could transfer files? It takes a whole day to clean up your hard drive and move data to your server's RAID array. Make the device even more remotely controllable via the Ethernet/USB ports. All in all I'm happy with it. One day someone will create a DVR software package for a computer that comes close to this device or the pannies that preceded it.

Pros
  • Elegant design
Cons
  • There are shortcomings
