Installed on both sides first and it didn't seem very strong but we decided to put it under the box spring and mattress and use the Y-strap. It helped, so we decided to keep it. However, in the weeks that followed, the buttons for moving the page up and down began to malfunction, and this morning the hinge between the two pages popped open. I walked into my room with my daughter with my head between the mattress and this product because the hinge had failed. I am returning this product and do not recommend anyone to buy it. I don't think it's safe. Will try a different brand/size of bed rail.
