I've tried these plastic bowl lid and chute combinations that sometimes come with blenders and never liked them. It always happened that egg whites didn't fall into the chute or flour flew back when I tried to carefully guide it into the chute. The mouth was always too small and it was inconvenient to feed ingredients into it. This metal gutter is a welcome change! It simply attaches to the edge of the bowl and can be moved to the side or removed entirely. The metal is surgical grade stainless steel which allows most ingredients to slide off and washes off easily. The open design and larger width make it easy to load ingredients without backflow. Tried this out the other day while making brownies from scratch. Cocoa, flour, sugar and eggs slid down the chute into the bowl while the beater spun smoothly. This just made me want to start using my KitchenAid again.
