Review on 🔗 Efficiently Cut and Rivet Chains with the D.I.D KM500R Chain Tool by Jeff Apel

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not impressed. Update: Completely unimpressed

The problem I have is that as soon as you start pushing the pins they make contact on the left side, the riveting tool makes contact the left side has and bottom. While the right side doesn't quite hit the plate, i.e. actually pushing the rivet at an angle, I have pictures. And for my main connecting link (ZJ), online, on a chain case, or with a link, there wasn't even any bell size information. It's very confusing, I mean it's a neat tool, but it's not neat because it doesn't evenly expand the rivet. So I sent it back, it must be harder steel or it arrived damaged, not sure what. I don't trust clip-style master links. So I squished that joint as best I could and there was no rivet head split, so I called it a good one. I also measured the Master Link rivet after 5.6mm flare, I think that was it and that's what OEM rivets measure, so I'll probably make my own DID specs! Update: I ordered and tried the second tool. I had 3 plain rivets that cost $10 each and I ruined 2 of them. If you try to go down on the panel with the edge of the flare tool like the instructions say, the rivet heads will blow off, so I only went 90% down, I didn't go all the way because that's my last main thing was shortcut. I measured the heads, they don't even give a spec for VX3 ZJ rivets! 🤯 But I measured 5.4mm and that's what the rest of the OEM rivets measure, so I think that's good enough, it's actually a crappy tool. I'm not impressed with the accuracy, I'm not impressed at all with how it works! I don't know what other options we have on the market but maybe check there.
