Review on πŸ”Œ ESI 685: High-Performance 400 Amps DC/AC Current Probe/DMM with Frequency Measurement by David Thornton

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Too expensive for useless features

This DMM is feature rich, sensitive, and offers autoranging. Unfortunately, some of these features are too limited to be useful. Take frequency and duty cycle modes for example. They can only work with 10 volts or less. This alone rendered these functions unusable for me. I need both to work at 10 volts and above, not the other way around. On the front panel, the plastic is as thin as paper. Good luck surviving the harsh conditions! Your finger can poke right through. Changing the battery requires stripping or removing the thick protective rubber sleeve that protects everything but the front to access the battery compartment. Also, AC mode doesn't work (or not at all) for testing AC ripple. My other cheap DMM does the job just fine. Comes with a VERY nice and sturdy carrying case and a pair of test leads. The color is RED, not yellow. I notice that sometimes the DMM fails and you have to power cycle it to reset it - never happened to me before with cheap DMMs. My conclusion on this is that you are better off buying another brand. This one will disappoint you. Too overpriced, over [.] plus shipping.

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • No performance
