My electrical company offered a deal on this product, so I was able to purchase it for only $30. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as helpful as I had hoped. It connects to the electricity meter and only shows the current electricity consumption for the whole house. I was expecting to be able to walk around the house, turning devices on and off and checking how much power they were using, but the monitor is slow (5-10 seconds) to detect changes in usage and the resolution is only a tenth of a kilowatt and therefore almost useless for comparisons with similar devices. Connection to the electricity meter (digital meter, optical connection at the top) was a time-consuming and tedious process. Every few days the meter stopped reading and had to be laboriously detached and moved. I ended up not being able to get it to read the meter at all, rendering the whole thing unusable. All in all, it's an interesting oddity, but I didn't find it very useful for real power savings. It shows you how much energy you're using throughout your home, but it doesn't help you determine which devices are actually causing the problem. Not worth the money, especially at retail.
