Review on Get Your Garden Game On-The-Go With Our Portable Rust-Proof Hand Trowel - Heavy Duty And Bent-Proof With Ergonomic Handle by Doug Nelson

Aluminum is the way to go!

As an avid gardener, I've gone through at least a dozen trowels and greatly prefer aluminum over iron/steel tools for their increased durability. For one thing, aluminum will never rust. The soil on our property is heavy clay or hardpan, so my tools take a lot of punishment.A set of aluminum Fiskars hand tools I bought for my mom more than 10 years ago is still in service, whereas multiple steel trowels I've had broke at the handle. I like that this tool is one piece. It's more like a scoop than the flatter, pointy trowels I normally use.

Pros
  • Dig planting holes with ease, no matter how hard-packed the soil
Cons
  • May not be sharp enough to cut through tough soil
