Over the past year I have made hundreds of masks by pinning a pattern and then cutting out a stack with scissors. I finally decided to try the disc cutter and it even came with a mat. It's a lot easier and quicker than cutting with scissors, and I don't even have to pin the pattern. Simply place on the fabric and close the zipper with the cutter. It is very sharp and comes with extra blades. I'm sure if you're cutting out larger patterns like clothing you'll need to use pins (and maybe a larger rug). But for my purposes this set is perfect.
