I ran a page through the scanner once and the next scan was sharp again. I saw that the first scan after going through the page through the scanner was most likely wiping off some residual black ink, but after that there was no problem. This completely fixed my scanner blurring. A third of my scanned pages were blurry which got me to the point where I was considering buying a new scanner because no matter what I tried it didn't solve the problem. This was my last desperate attempt and it worked like clockwork. If your scans appear blurry, this could be the solution. This saved me $300 on a new scanner.
