Exactly what I needed.

I have a project where I connect a Raspberry PI computer to a PC monitor, but I need sound. Computer monitors don't usually have speakers, but I wanted to use HDMI digital audio (instead of the 3.5mm audio jack as it's very quiet). I bought this device + another device. I use this device to output digital audio over HDMI and then stream the HDMI video to a PC monitor. I then take the SPDIF/TOSLINK digital audio and connect it to another device which then converts the digital audio to analog audio on a line out. The other unit includes an IR remote control for volume +/- and mute, which is exactly what I wanted. Pros - Easy connection including HDMI and TOSLINK cables, power adapter. Option for digital audio output (SPDIF) or analog (2x RCA), audio format pass-through selection (2ch stereo, 5.1ch surround). Disadvantages - not yet noticed.
