Review on Bi-Directional Optical to Coaxial and Coaxial to Optical SPDIF Toslink Digital Audio Converter Splitter Adapter by Tendak by Travis Caminiti

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Recording Studio App

I route the mix audio to the main and secondary monitors through a Presonus hub connected to my interfaces (MOTU 24Ai AVB) via TOSLink. After a recent move, the TOSLink input at the central station went down and I had to keep working to track down the correct part for the repair (if that's even possible for the end user). Since the Tendak converter is only a few dollars more than most Digikey/Mouser TOSLink input ports, I decided to take a chance and see if that would be a good temporary solution. It worked flawlessly right out of the box with no obvious stuttering. , clock or latency issues. I'm sure there's some kind of delay but I certainly did not notice and did not notice. I have no need to measure. I usually use 24/48 or 24/44.1 speed. I also tested with higher sample rates. 24/88.2 and 24/96 played well. I didn't get any sound from 24/176.4 or 24/192, but I can't say exactly what the problem is since I never use those frequencies. Honestly, if you work at these frequencies most of the time, you probably aren't looking at this converter anyway. The build quality is solid. The body is made of metal. It comes with a matching USB cable and the device is successfully powered by one of my Anker 10-port USB hubs. If I could give partial ratings, I would deduct a quarter star, as one of the TOSLink port doors was missing a spring and although present the door moved freely. If I were buying this for use in a mobile tool box I would definitely contact the seller for a replacement, but as this is pretty much a permanent setup it doesn't matter. However, the port with the spring seems to be very strong. This device is a good buy. The sound quality is the same as when connected directly via TOSLink, and that's the main thing.
