This is a 4 star review of the AVMTON 4K HDMI 2.0 Switch 3 Port HDMI Switcher. It seems like a nice little switch when it works. Beautiful metal body and high quality remote control. I had confusing issues setting it up, but now that it's working, it toggles fine. It automatically switches when the input is activated (from disabled or disabled - when waking up, the input is not automatically swapped, which is probably for the better). I've used a 50ft HDMI copper cable with good results, 1080p at 60Hz. The cable is heavy and good quality. I've also successfully used a 50ft HDMI fiber optic cable at 1080p and 4K at 60Hz. Works very well for both. With this cable and monitor I've had occasional infrequent signal dropouts (the screen briefly goes black), and with this switch in the cable it happened a little more often, but not by much. It doesn't bother me and probably has more to do with the monitor and long cables than this switch. Overall the signal processing in this switch seems to be good. The tricky problem I had setting up and testing is that one of my computers REALLY doesn't like it having its HDMI hot plugged in (disconnected while hot). The cable becomes unusable until I reboot and it can lock up the monitor. So if I made the mistake of unplugging that wire, that switch would actually be locked and you wouldn't be able to switch to another input. You can turn it on and off with the remote, but it's still tied to an input. The fact that the switch locks in this state isn't shocking - my monitor doesn't lock well with it either, it needs to be turned off completely. Restoration. The trick with this switch is that the only way to reset it is to turn off the power completely. But even if you turn off USB power, it's still getting power from one or all of the attached HDMI cables (it doesn't seem to need USB power at all). Therefore, you need to unplug or unplug all cables connected to the switch and also remove USB power to allow the switch to shut down and recover. So this switch can REALLY use a real reset or power button, not just a power remote that just mutes the signal but doesn't reset it. But once plugged in, it seems to work. I just leave the USB power on. However, I think that if I disconnect USB power, this picky device will be temporarily disabled and the switch will lock up. So basically I can't turn off the switch and when I do that I have to turn off or unplug all devices and monitors to restore them. be so difficult. But I didn't have to reset it other than to test. Now that I know the condition that is causing it to hang and how to reset it, getting around it is not that hard. But before I realized what was going on, it was confusing. The only other downside might be that the ports on the back are very narrow to insert or remove the cable. I give this 4 stars. Maybe 5 because for the price it seems well made and hopefully most devices will work better with it, but the lack of a reset makes it difficult to use with some hardware. (You could have used the 'Select' button at the top as a reset - hold it down for 10 seconds, for example, to reset it, but that doesn't seem to work.) But it supports 4K at 60Hz and did it well work. Imo this is a very good way to add a remote control and more inputs. Seems to work well with long cables too.
