Review on Nobsound NS 10P Audio Pre Amplifier Control by Tony Ledbetter

I got this for different reasons than most I guess. My intention was to experiment with this on the guitar signal in hopes that I could add some "tube voltage" effects to my signal path. I connect a 1/4" to 3.5mm jack from the guitar to this device and then the same cable from the device to my interface. Right from the start I noticed that the amplified signal added a bit of clarity to my signal and graininess, and this showed a bit when I added a bit of drive to the sound signal - computer side, not guitar side. The boost/cut in bass and treble isn't as dramatic as I had hoped, but I remember that this is not what the unit was designed for and I agree. The tone change is still there and can be changed. The only disappointment I have with it is the volume control is not very good. When I turn the knob up Turning "0" the sound is off, but at about 8-9 o'clock it's already at full volume - a little less than 1/4 of the knob's full travel, from there to Mac volume it's all the way Same volume all the time.Last thing I noticed en and was wondering if the tubes were just a placebo effect and weren't there better conditions? The device does not make any sound when you remove the tubes, but as soon as you install the left one, it works. To me it sounds the same with or without the right tube, and the waveforms look as identical as they can be when recorded. I'm interested and I'm sure someone can confirm or deny this, but I don't know enough about wiring and electronics to verify. Just food for thought and my observations. I'm going to create a line for an old, small, solid state amp speaker and see if I can use it as a mini head to power the amp. If I remember I will update this.
