I don't think this is the best idea for small tanks unless you are going to be using it all the time and changing the fill fairly regularly. Place them in small reef tanks with algae, as sudden swings in phosphate levels can wreak havoc on the system. If you already have algae in your aquarium, this is not a good idea. Adding that much phosphate medium will suddenly remove the phosphate and you risk reducing the algae population and causing other organic pollutants and ammonia surges when the algae die. If you really want to use this medium, you must use it in large systems (50 gallons and up) or you must use it continuously from the beginning of the aquarium's life.
