When repairing a stock fork. That is, this tool is not needed for draining and replacing fluid, replacing gaskets and scrapers. On the other hand, if you want to disassemble the damper shaft in order to reinstall or check the valve, this tool is an absolute must. I was able to disassemble my bumper incorrectly, don't ask and this tool is definitely the correct and preferred way. Don't try to disassemble your bumper without it!
