I have been using EHM alkaline water jugs for over a year and change the filter element every 40 days as recommended by the manufacturer. (The jug lid has an electronic cartridge life indicator that failed on two of the jugs, so it's useless as an indicator of when to change the filter.) The filter cartridges had to be tapped and shaken almost every time they were filled, as the crystals inside compacted easy. , preventing the water from being filtered and remaining in the funnel section. That's why I have to take the lid off every time I water, so the unfiltered water doesn't mix with the filtered water. I love the water these filters produce, so I'm tolerating those extra steps, but not for long.
