Nice solution without many hidden tricks
The ability for all users regardless their role/level can view profiles with no need user permissions! It's not very easy nor intuitively clear how one could do this as an administrator or owner but it is possible if you know where some fields are located (e.g., "Description" field).
Maybe there should be more options in other sections like Company Information - e.G.: Contact Info section? I think that having profile search option available would help too since most times we want our colleagues from different countries etc. to find us via social media channels using public identities or similar ones.
Pros
- No administration needed, once set up
- Can access by everyone who has read permission
- User doesn't have password necessary at any time during logon process.
- There were also many customization possibilities including CSS editing which helped me create my own design without coding knowledge
Cons
- Good but not great
