This device does exactly what you need without compromise or fuss. Of course, your success depends on selecting the appropriate voltage to meet the needs of your device PLUS the ability to handle the over-voltage encountered at startup. It doesn't make a noticeable noise or smell unless you're standing directly in front of it, but it's very weak and I don't feel like it's any worse than other devices. You can certainly minimize this potential inconvenience by turning off the switch on the back of the device when not in use. I recommend this device without hesitation.
