Review on Heavy Duty Replacement Office Chair Furniture by Jon Louis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Long lasting - lasts 4 months.

In July 2018, I replaced the casters on my home office chair with skateboard wheels. They rolled smoothly and quietly and I was happy with them. What I didn't realize at the time was that because the wheels are larger than the original wheels, they put extra stress on the chair's seats, which the castor axles are inserted into. (The larger diameter of the wheels changes the angle between the shaft and the point of contact with the ground. Hence more leverage.) One day one of the wheels broke! The side of the bushing cracked, no longer holding the roller shaft. When I checked other outlets, I found that they all had cracks. That was about 9-10 months after I replaced the rollers. After realizing I couldn't fix the base of the chair, I started pricing out some new chairs. I work from home so didn't want to go "cheap" and risk discomfort, but the better chairs were quite expensive. I decided to see if the base could be replaced and found this solid replacement base. I'm glad I did! The cost was certainly much less than replacing the entire chair. And it wasn't hard to do. I found a video on a popular video site (not sure if I'm allowed to mention it). I used a rubber mallet that I used to unscrew the old base. Once removed, all that was required was to place the casters on the new base, insert the chair's center bar into the base, and place on top of it to press into place. The height of the base is slightly higher than the old one so I just adjusted the height of the chair to compensate for this and I'm done. The chair rolls easily again and after 4 months of use I don't see any signs of cracking. in sockets. (If I discover them in the future I will post an update.)
