Even a slight movement of the microphone (or the scissors it is attached to) causes the microphone Change USB cable and thus terminate the running process for which the microphone is used, for example video conferencing. For high-stakes communications, the mic is too unreliable to recommend. Also (at least when used with a Mac) the sound/speech quality of your conversation partners is significantly worse if you use Shure as an external microphone. I've tried Webex, Zoom, FaceTime, and Skype—and when I used the Mac's built-in (maybe even "junk") internal microphone, the voice quality from everyone I spoke to was great. When the Shure was used as a mic, the sound was muffled, much quieter, and very processed. I suspect that during these "ringtones" the Shure tone circuitry overrides the Mac circuitry, and after all sorts of "improvements" were applied, the output deteriorated. Still wanting to keep the purchase, I tried two different Macs, different settings, different apps. But the negative result was systematic. To make sure Shure itself was the problem, I bought two of these, Gen 1 and Gen 2 (same, plus a USB-C cable). Problem still exists. In fact, this is a very mediocre mic wrapped in a nice body (i.e. facade) to evoke associations as if the mic were real.
