what do you need to know

It's important to know what you're buying before you buy, and this and other grinders have many negative reviews, as do attachments and burrs. A lot of these reviews are unfounded and/or they're not really complaining about the performance of the tool itself. This is a basic electric straight grinder with an idle speed of 25,000 rpm. If you don't know what that means, it's some kind of Dremel, but much bigger, heavier and much more powerful. It has speed and it's fast. Some people claim it can't be accurate, but it's a simple tool, meaning it's only as accurate as your ability to safely control and maintain it. It's heavier and has more torque (torque) than its smaller counterparts, but practice improves accuracy. There are many varieties of bits and burrs, but most of them are designed to work with different types of metals. The most important consideration is to only use bits rated at 25,000 RPM or higher. Some bits will bend or break at these speeds. In general, the following applies: the denser the cut edges, the more problems you have with softer materials (wood, softer aluminum, etc.). Some types of burrs are much better than others and can cut hardened steel surprisingly well. They can be quite expensive, but there are more affordable and good ones (both foreign and domestic). Bits and burrs are held in the collet. They are installed on different shaft sizes. Any bit that this tool can hold and that can handle the speed can be used with the right collet. Makita collets are as follows: Model no. 763625-8 -1/4" (included) Model # 763626-6 -1/8" (Dremel's most common bit size) Model # 763620-8 -6 mm (International most common size) ) Model no. 763627-4 -3mm (smaller international size) If you buy a 1/8" collet from Revain the negative reviews are mostly because people bought it for the wrong tool. Also available are 6mm collets and aftermarket 3mm collets.here and elsewhere which probably work fine but I haven't used them. This grinder is a good tool if it suits your needs. It can cut mild steel quickly and easily with a good carbide bur. It can grind welds, cut rivets or bolts, or machine carve metal or wood (variable speed can be better for wood). If you need variable speed, please buy another model. If you want a small tool that fits in the palm of your hand If this tool fits you then this isn't it, but if this tool suits you then buy it is my advice to you.
