Like other balms, this balm is oilier and does not absorb well into the skin. That's why I don't like using it on my hands because it stays oily long after application. Instead, it works by creating a moisture barrier between dry air and the skin. It works well when used on my kids' faces before they go out into the cold, dry air to keep their cheeks from getting chapped and cracked on our outdoor winter walks. This balm works much better than creams for this application as it remains on the skin as a barrier. It also works very well on exposed areas of the skin such as hands and feet to prevent them from drying out. In truth, this is very similar to the multi-purpose Burts Bee ointment we used on our baby's bottom to create a moisture barrier between nappy changes, thus preventing the need for nappy rash creams. Instead, we always applied a balm between diaper changes to keep moisture out in those situations.
