Review on Ergodyne N Ferno 6821 Balaclava Thermal by Emanuel Guffey

Reflective material, soft fleece, reflective material, good value for money

I am a sailor who loves to sail long distances (eg 1200 nautical miles and more) in the sea. Because I swim in cold water areas (e.g. Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Maine, Northern California) I need to wear warm clothing outside on the deck of a boat. I bought this balaclava and was pleasantly impressed. It has a very soft inside (soft fleece) and a smooth outside. The light yellow/lime color really stands out, which I think is important when dealing with a MOB (man overboard). The fleece is warm but not as thick as some. I would call it a medium weight fleece. Can be worn under a helmet. In extremely cold weather, I'll likely wear another "watch cover" for extra warmth. The length is good to protect the neck from the cold, especially in the front. The upper dark stripes you see on the top of the item are the reflective edges and they reflect the light very well when a spotlight is shined on them. My only complaint is that the balaclava is "one size fits all" and relatively small for my very large head. This made it very uncomfortable to wear when I first bought it. It was very tight on my head/skull. I solved this problem by stretching the balaclava by putting some folded bath towels inside, which allowed it to expand into a larger shape. This might also work for you if you have a very large head. If you have a large or small head, this will likely fit easily. I love this item so much I gave one to every crew member when we sailed to Newfoundland. It fits in my sea bag on future trips to cold water or cold weather areas.
