These trays are not quality. Any defects or knots in the wood were filled with wood putty. I think it would be better to just leave them alone and celebrate the mistakes. There were also places where the wood was split. If I had seen this in a hardware store at that price I probably wouldn't have bought it. I have no plans to return it because I was specifically looking for a farmhouse inspired hexagonal tray that is too specific to find anywhere else.
