Review on RKSTM Black Spare Tire Mount by Demco by Tony Conlon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Well designed for Demco's unique offset rim

The unit is easy to install and the instructions are very clear as to which bolts go with which washers. The device physically extends far enough to provide a large positive rim offset so that the tire never touches or rubs against the truck tongue. I'm only rating it a four instead of five due to two design flaws. First, you can't install it with optional accessories that have a different tongue (such as a Demco tool box). If you have a tongue jack, there is not enough space to install these two options. The jack hand crank has no rotational play and you cannot retract the jack after placing the dolly on the tractor. Second, there are only two bolts on the bracket and there are no other devices for locking. They have two nuts to attach the spare tire to the bracket, but they are plain 13/16 chrome nuts, not locknuts. So anyone with a standard key can buy a replacement. I suppose you can thread the cable lock through the rim to the wagon, but then it looks rustic. A more elegant solution would be to purchase an aftermarket lock nut. I am pleased with the solid construction of this mount and have peace of mind that the replacement part will always be there when needed and will not fall off due to a weak mount.
