Update, replacement — a different model, inches smaller in every direction, hotplate corners are angled, not right angles, making the heating surface even smaller, and no box, so it might be a used or old model. No strap, no brand name. Tested it anyway to see if i could still use it. First and second uses, loud popping noises, and a harsh burning plastic-wires smell, which faded but then got worse on second use. Returning, trying different brand.Update, first purchase, a couple days after first use — Second use, smelled of burning wires-plastic, with no visible damage to the bag or hotplate. And it didn’t heat properly. Refrigerated food maybe 2 inches deep was cold in middle, lukewarm around edges after an hour, when maker says it should have been plenty hot. Also, a couple things i noticed — first, the seams are sewn and lap the insulation, which is nice, but the fabric touches the hot plate frame. They probably safety-tested that, so it might be ok in a lab when things are working properly, but these hotplates are so often made poorly or don’t survive shipping, that the design could be unsafe in real life use. Second, looking closely, there are small gear-shaped dents in the middle of cooking surface of the hotplate. Maybe the burners are attached to it underneath, which might be stable for shipping, but again unsafe in real-life use. This might be where the burning plastic-wires smell comes from. So I dropped my rating from five stars to one. I am trying one return-replacement, and if it is unsafe too, i will try another competitor.Original review a day after delivery — I find this roomier, sturdier so far, less expensive, handier (strap and pocket), and easier to use than the previous brand i tried, Hot Logic. A closed, 2-cup silicone bowl (small bottom) of room temperature water heated to nicely drinkable, not piping hot, in about an hour. I bet it would have been piping hot if the container had a wider, flat bottom. Other people reported smelly and crumbly plastic, but i have had no problem so far. Even the bag’s corners are shaped better than the other brand, both inside and outside are curved the same, and they don’t catch in the sturdy zipper. The instructions aren’t translated perfectly, but they are simple enough to figure out. Thankful and pleased so far.
