Ball bearings slide smoothly. The mounting brackets that attach to the table can be rotated inward or outward. A good backup if you suddenly realize there is something along the way that you were planning to make mistakes. The length of board you choose to install is only limited by the length of the table or your personal preference. I used a 3/4" 4ft melamine shelf I bought at Home Depot for $10 and then had it trimmed down to 36" for me. The melamine is chipping on one side as the blade they use in household storage is designed to break. Mine didn't chip much just because they just changed the blade when I arrived. But for me that's not a problem since I made the chips side down. If you have your own saw I recommend using a 60 tooth blade. Or, if you want your board color matched to your table, buy raw wood and then spray paint it. If you measure as accurately as possible with some common sense, I don't see anyone doing anything wrong with this product. Just like any other slide, you can run into problems if it's not properly aligned. Absolutely not the manufacturer's fault. The build quality is heavy in my opinion. It comes with 8 screws. Some of the holes on the mounts are oval, which is also very handy for some micro-adjustment options. One place for improvement, IMHO, is this. I would like the screw mounts that run under the board to be widened. The center of the hole is only 3/8 inch from the edge of the panel you are screwing on. It's too close to the edge of the board for comfort. At least more than 1/2 inch would be nice. Overall I am very very happy with this product as I now have 36" x 12" of additional space under my desk.
