This is a letter to the people who will soon be the proud owners of this model, detailing the flaws that have haunted me ever since. My previous phones were largely blackberries and a small Sony; I've had an ipad for years and think it's the best of the bunch, so I bought an iphone with the assumption that it would be just as good. Well, the phone has a really odd noise reduction method, and from what I can tell, this is not an issue with my specific unit, but rather the most recent firmware update. Allowing for the inclusion of ambient noise in the conversational speaker is a useful feature for use in noisy environments. It's not common, but it does occur occasionally. It is impossible to expect to understand the other subscriber at this time. This is frustrating and obviously a jam; turning off the noise reduction helps a little, but some noise is still transmitted to the speaker. Oddly, that didn't occur with any of the other phones we tried. The conversational speaker, on the other hand, is notably muddled; increasing the volume does not improve the situation. This is analogous to how, when using regular headphones, high-quality musical playback often results in muffled or distorted speech at normal listening levels. When I compared it to the other three operators, I can say with certainty that the issue is not with any of them. On to the modem discussion. As far as I'm aware, the newest models include Intel CPUs, thus fast LTE fans will be disappointed as well. After being tested by another competent person, it was determined that this modem does not release at a rate of more than 130 Mbps, despite the fact that the average speed in this area is 200 Mbps. Tethering or using hotspot mode with an iPad can be a source of aggravation for some people. Even though the posted speed limit is high, enforcers often fail to enforce it. As an example, let's imagine that the iPhone's speedtest reports 60 Mbps, but that when distributed in modem mode, that number lowers to 30, and the iPhone is recharged very rapidly and obviously heats up. Yet, this issue does not exist on other smarts, and in fact, legs tend to develop from Intel modems. In other words, you'll be in pain if you use tel. for these purposes; the device probably won't make it until night; and you can probably fry an egg.
