Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Coghlan's Cast Iron Cooker & Broiler: Efficient Outdoor Cooking Companion by Emili Hudson

Serves as intended but has design flaws

Used in a fire pit for the first time tonight. I made delicious corned beef, cheese, and a thousand islands toast. Spread the outside of the bread with butter. Also used to warm up graham crackers and chocolate for s'mores as the innermost square turns out to be perfect for half a graham cracker! Yes, season yourself before use. And then! It's like any other piece of iron for cooking. After we finish our meal, we put the plates back on the fire for a few minutes to char the rest of the food. Then I cleaned and anointed each one and put them back on the fire for a while. Nice and shiny again, ready for the next use. Well, using this thing, I'd say the best option would be single rather than double. I wish it was easier to manage one sandwich or cake at a time. I think the double is too heavy for the handles. A few other reviewers report a broken hinge, and I see it happening because it just seems too flimsy for its intended purpose. It really needs a redesign. During use, the handles are tied tightly with ties, which creates pressure at the hinge point. I would only suggest leaving it under pressure while cooking. When not in use, the handles should be unscrewed from the iron plates and stored separately. Personally, I'm looking forward to finding out what I can do with it. Might buy a single Sammy/Pie model later.

Pros
  • Fit: Universal fit. Handle length: 20.4 inches (52 cm), full length with handles: 26.7 inches (68 cm). Cooking chamber measures 3.75" x 4" Total weight 4.5 lbs
Cons
  • So far so good
