Review on 🧽 Blue Waffle Wash Sponge by Optimum (23186) by Kevin Hauck

Started falling apart after the first wash!

EDIT: Revain promptly refunded this purchase and told me not to return it as it probably wasn't worth their time, money and effort. I have used it several times since then and my original opinion on the matter remains, this product is DIFFERENT. Literally every cleaning product is better and more useful, with the exception of the built-in brush in a car wash. You pay for OPT branding and the cost of packaging and shipping, hence the $6-$10 price range. ONR is an eco-friendly product, but it's not eco-friendly if you have to keep changing the sponge because it falls apart so easily. A long time ago I was an active member of what was then the most popular automotive forum, Autopia.org. . I learned a lot of information from this site and after trying many different products I settled on a special cheap grout sponge from Home Depot. I've had plenty of good wash mitts, but I liked the fact that the sponge was always ready to use. I didn't have to collect a bunch of microfiber towels and mittens and remember to wash them before the next use. I haven't followed the scene in detail since, but I've noticed that nobody's talking about the cheap, nondescript HD grout sponge anymore. Now that I live in a cold climate I picked up a jug of ONR Wash & Wax for winter washing and decided to try the Optimum Sponge as they are designed to work together. I think most people have this misconception (myself included) that the dirt comes off the paint and the waffle pattern helps with that, but in my opinion the reality is that most people just press harder on the paint. Sponge to get enough surface to clean the surface. I like the size of the sponge and the price was ok at first, but after the first use I noticed that the sponge was already starting to fall apart. It didn't snag on anything, and I didn't clean anything that was dirty, rough, or had sharp edges, so all I can think of is rubbing the waffle side (wash side) into the bucket against my dust cover. I don't expect the sponge to never get scratched or cut, but for something that costs the same as a decent chenille washcloth from Walmart, that shouldn't be the case after just one wash. The cheap grout sponge I used never fell apart on me. I just threw it away when I moved and it just wasn't worth packing. Just save your money and find another detergent of your choice. I felt ripped off and it was only 1/3 the price of their Big Red Sponge which I could never imagine paying $20 for a slotted sponge.
