I just built a new computer and there are no USB 2.0 ports in the case and on a very good one Neither do ASUS X570 motherboard. It has plenty of USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, which is great, but for things like my mouse, keyboard, etc. I only need USB 2.0 ports. I don't know if that's the case now, but many years ago, plugging USB 2.0 devices into USB 3.0 ports could slow down other ports. This may be very old, outdated information, but I plug a lot of stuff into my computer anyway, and I didn't want to mess around with an external hub just for USB 2.0 devices. Since my MB still has two USB 2 connectors on the board (each capable of handling 2 ports), this was a great solution: it uses two connectors and offers the expected 4 ports, each connector supports 2. BTW: why would anyone build You have a slot with a connector leading to a header that supports 2 ports and only provides one? It works well and costs around $8. The only thing to note is that unlike the Power Hub, it only supplies 5V by default, so very little power to the ports. That's fine for mice, keyboards, etc., but those who need more power will need a powered hub, as there are still many devices that are happy with USB 2.0 speeds but need more power.
