This mic gets a solid three stars. analogues in this price range. I have several Digipower amps in my mic closet that cost 1/3 the price of a MIC-J 044, cut more wind noise and sound better. I wanted something smaller than the Digipower lavs, but I still use them more often than the MIC-J 044 due to the noise reduction aspect. Also, the cable is very thin. If this mic ever falls out of the clip, you'll have to cut the cable in half with your fingernail to snap it back into place on the included clip. You could use a better clip like the Sennheiser MZQ222, Shure RPM150, or Lectrosonics C140 if the cable was *much* thicker. To install it into a Shure or Sennheiser clip, you'll need to wrap tape around the cable to keep it from moving. This will of course affect how the mic looks in the frame at that point, so don't use too much tape. A small piece twice around the cable where the microphone attaches to the clip is good enough if you are using one of the recommended replacement clips. I would prefer Shure or Sennheiser to Lectrosonics. Having worked with audio equipment for many years, I have experience with more expensive equipment such as Tram TR50, Sennheiser MKE-2, Lectrosonics M152 and Sony ECM-44. If you're looking for something with sound quality on par with one of these mics, then this isn't it. However, if you're looking for lava bubbles that won't bother you in the field, or want something that sounds better than your camera's built-in microphone, these are worth considering.
