Nice cheap box.

I love the design of this box and it is perfect for what it was designed for: storing and protecting your 12" vinyl records. If I had to carry records around all the time like my DJ friends do I'd like something bigger and a bit sturdier, but they're perfect for storing and moving around the house and can be packed into a big box for shipping or transport I like the design of the detachable hinges traditional for this type of box, but the hinges themselves are of very poor quality and one of them was squinting attached to my box. It works but I was free to return it as defective and I would if I thought the next one would be much better. That's what you get at this price. I think I'd like a box like this that's really well put together and expertly coated (mine looks like it was made by someone who only cares about speed, which I'm sure). and expertly fitted with real brass fittings. , It's not, but it works and looks a lot better than a box. I ordered a similar case from another brand for a little more money and will return it if I think it's better. Update: Just received the Crosely Platter Pak. It's almost identical and shares the same cheap design. but i like it better. It's beautifully tweed covered, the hinges are straight and of slightly better quality, it's well packaged and overall looks more finished and cared for than the retround. It has a smooth plastic lining instead of felt, which might not look as pretty but is probably more practical. The corner protectors look a lot better than the flimsy sheet metal protectors on Retround, but I think they're plastic, so who knows if they really protect the box better. Also, the Crosley lid is much easier to close when full of albums, indicating a more thoughtful design. (Or maybe a broken loop on Retrosound ;-)

Pros
  • Beautiful packaging
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
