Maybe I got a bad one, but I've spent most of the day trying to figure out why I have such an uneven surface. I'm in the process of removing my prolapse, but my sub-floor isn't flat to begin with. I wanted to use this tool to measure the height at the spots where I will be using the stop wedges before the slope. This allows me to duplicate the wedges starting on a flat surface when setting my pre-tilt. I used to draw a layer guideline around the soul I'm building. I used this line as a starting point for hanging this system. I quickly realized that by using the layers in each straight line I was deviating quite a bit from my previously drawn line. I thought I had an issue with pivot points causing an error so I put my level/straight edge under the level sections to make sure the seam between the sections was even. I couldn't get several straight pieces to show the level on the bubbles at the same time and lay flat on the 48 inch level I had underneath. I gave the system the benefit of the doubt and went ahead and bought a brand new 48 inch aluminum spirit level. My original 48" level was admittedly misused and plasticky, so I felt it was no longer trustworthy. I brought home a new aluminum level and made sure it showed my reference lines were actually even. I was able to take readings between duplicate my old and new level. I took a closer look at the level's even elements and superimposed them, aligning the top of each element to my guideline. Each even element showed a different level. To hold them up against the same benchmarks. Also I put all 4 together and pressed against the wall at the same time to take the picture. You could see that all 4 bubbles were in different positions.I suspect the problem is related to the way the vials go into the Plastic casings of the sections are put in. Other people seem to have had good results with the system n, so I guess I just got a bad set (unless others tested the set with other levels). But of course the way to spend the Sunday is disappointing. If I hadn't drawn a reference line first, I might not have noticed that this tool was more than 1/2 inch off level over a 60 inch span. I decided to drill some holes through my actual levels and use them to do essentially the same thing, screwing them to the wall.
