It works, but I'm not a fan of alignment. This works if you make pocket holes on the outside of the "box" (see image). If you plan to drill holes in your "box", the washer side of the clip is on the corner edge of the two pieces being joined and will not hold or slide off the edge. If the more expensive version of this clip is the same then I will be disappointed with this purchase, at this price point I can live with that.
