I have a new truck! in visas

It's a little weird opening something that should be big boy/girl size in your mind. It looks and feels like it belongs on a small desktop. I really thought it was plastic. I've tapped it and it's die-cast metal, thin but still metallic. No plastic. I couldn't get over how easy it was so I decided to use my new gram scale. Total Weight = 150.5 grams = 5.3 0z (less than 1/3 lb). Jaws only need 1 3/8. "width, not 1 1/2" or unscrew the back of the vise. I'm going to attach one of those furniture hinges and glue the tabs to the vise where it clamps on the table, this should keep little "circles" from appearing and damaging the table, or I could just use a thin piece of wood or metal for the pressure equalization of the clamp. I will also glue small strips of high density foam or rubber to the jaw to avoid scratching the piece I am working on. With a few modifications, this definitely has potential for an easy hobby and third hand. For $6.40 shipping, this is a WINNER. I can stash it in my tool box and mount it in tight spots very quickly. I am very happy with my purchase and for light to moderate use this should be the bill. The weight should be great for those who are traveling with their hobby tools. Heavy hammer blows and concussions are not recommended with this vise, maybe a small rubber mallet. It's an easy, quick and convenient way to make the most of your limited space for your hobby. I'm actually sitting on the floor with a small wooden table that measures about 21 x 13 x 8 inches, the vise is perfect for that 1/2 inch thickness and doesn't overwhelm the area. All in all for my purposes exactly what I was looking for in a mini vise.

Pros
  • practical thing
Cons
  • so far so good
