This little mesh terrarium will save butterflies' lives! When I spotted 7 tiny caterpillars in my garden the night before a severe frost, I panicked. I brought them in but didn't know what to do with them (and just to be clear these were monarch caterpillars that are migratory, not wintering as the low temperatures will kill them quickly). I put her in an old aquarium and searched Revain. I found this terrarium, liked the reviews so I took a chance. It arrived in 2 days to my delight and surprise! I moved all the caterpillars to new homes. It's big enough that I could even plant milkweed in a pot instead of cutting off the leaves (like I did with the aquarium). The mesh terrarium is small enough to fit on a kitchen counter without getting in the way, but large enough to hold 6 potted milkweed plants and large enough for the caterpillars to pupate on top of the mesh without disturbing (or disturbing ) milkweed and caterpillars below. It's also very easy to clean if you line the bottom with paper towels to catch the flour. The door is easy to open with 2 zippers. As a status update for the rescued caterpillars, two pupae are at the top of the web while the rest are still chewing and growing! This small tent saved the lives of 7 caterpillars (which turned out to be 6 monarchs and 1 queen). I've already added another one to my cart because you never know when you'll need two! HIGHLY recommended if you are interested in breeding caterpillars/butterflies voluntarily or by accident. Another thing I would add is that when the weather warms it will be very easy to pick it up and take it outside to acclimate them to the temperature without exposing them to predators - this little terrarium even has carrying handles. !
