It was recommended to me by someone who has used it on their dog for years and this spray has never had plaque or tartar build up on the dog's teeth. I have used it and my dog already has plaque and crusts on his teeth. I can see it's important, but you must use it as directed for best results. You must apply it twice a day and do not eat or drink anything for 30 minutes before and after spraying. It definitely works better than the other mint gels I've used, the dog didn't like the taste and was scared when it came time to put it on him. With this spray I tell him it's time to spray in his mouth and he sits up and opens his mouth. He has a faint smell of alcohol, but that doesn't seem to bother him.
