I have two very smelly boy rats and although they are potty trained they smell of EVERYTHING no matter how lightly I clean the cage. After I wash, they stink slightly all over my ground floor for a few days. Anyway, I spray their cage once a day while they are sleeping, lazy and shouldn't be disturbed. It helps get rid of the urine smell and allows me to wait a little longer between cleanings, although I still wash the linens once a week, stain remove and empty the tray often. The smell is *very light* to the point where it's barely noticeable. If any. It is very weak and dissolves within minutes after spraying. I believe that this faint and short-lived odor is probably far less harmful to them than constant ammonia inhalation. I didn't notice any sneezing, sniffling, or excited behavior after spraying. And I don't leave my bedroom two days after the cage cleaning and get a strong smell of stinky rat butts on my face. This is a win-win situation.
