First of all, I'm a perfectionist. I find it very difficult to earn a compliment. Second, after reading other reviews, I'm starting to think I should have spent more money on a "premium" brand. I am happy to report any concerns I have based on negative reviews from other reviewers. After my art box arrived, it disappeared. I am very pleased with the quality and design of the US Art Box. The storage box has a matte clear finish (exterior surfaces only). The sides of the storage box are made of densely grained hardwood. upper, The bottom and bottom of the storage box are made of 3-ply furniture plywood. A photo's included show the inner bowl with the gap size shown using regular coins, two pennies and two nickels to provide visual evidence. There is nothing wrong with the fit or finish of this tray. All fittings, latches, hinges and handles were in place like an arrow. All carpentry work was well done. The photo showing the inside corner of the tray shows the ONLY flaw I could find.
