Great bag and I use it for everything. The zippered front pocket is enough to put your essentials inside. It doesn't have a lot of space, which limits its use for small things like a battery, cords, or maybe a hairbrush. The interior of the bag is roomy enough to fit multiple textbooks in the internal compartments that are broken apart. 3 quadrants separated by a flexible panel that separates the laptop area from the main storage area. The inner lining of the bag is firmly sewn and I had no problems with protruding threads. I really like all the pockets this thing has to make it possible to carry multiple pieces of gear.
