What happened to Clarks?

These shoes almost ruined my vacation because of the problems they caused. I have always worn Clarks shoes and was looking for a pair of good walking sandals to replace the used and excellent Clarks sandals I still have and they seemed perfect just like the old ones. I wore them briefly at home and then put them aside for the trip with confidence. When I wore them on a trip (September 17th - October 4th) I thought we would have to cancel everything because of the pain they were causing. The front lobes caused huge blisters between the 4th and 5th toes, first on the right foot and then on the left, even when opened as wide as possible. The left side was so bad we had to buy another pair of shoes - the pain was so bad I couldn't put weight on my 4th and 5th toes. We bought bandages, moleskin, and eventually special plasters for cornsโ€”anything that could ease the pain and allow me to walk. I have inspected the shoes on numerous occasions and suspect the problem was the raised edge of the insole which resulted in the 5th toe pressing against the 4th causing blisters and open "cuts". I also strongly suspect that the leather parts are now made of vinyl. I felt like a pilgrim going to Compostella to heal the pain - we (tried) to scale the medieval villages of southern France! If I had taken my 5 year old couple this would not have happened; due to my now questionable trust in clarks i will never buy a pair again and i don't have foot problems because i buy good shoes! Just no more Clarks from now on.
