Doesn't fit regular rubber

I don't know why but they are not meant for regular rubber. They cannot be hung without modification. Really needing to get them working due to my project deadline, I took a pair of pliers and snapped off the bottom pieces. It was a bit difficult, but they've been fine ever since.
