I've never used Melty beads before so I can't compare any other brand, although this set is amazing! I just received it and got straight to work. I made 6 drawings from a picture I found online. I would like more brown. I bought a few more because I needed a variety of brown tones to create skin tones. The only setback I had was when I followed the ironing instructions and it didn't work. I put the iron on low (3), it doesn't melt. Set it to Medium (5), no. So I climbed one until I got my results. 7, this is the wool setting for my iron (I assume it's for everyone), melted it nicely. I have to apply pressure so they melt evenly. I got this tall because the beads only slightly stuck to the iron-on paper and shifted, causing me to lose about half of my design. I don't understand why people get upset about packages not being reclosed, kept and separated. I understand why some people don't like the container though, it's a bit flimsy but with care it should hold up. I'm not worried about it coming loose because the latches are difficult to disengage. I think if you drop the container from a great height it will break.
