It helped when I had to play chimney sweep all day to clean the chimney for my wood stove. Sufficiently strong round brush that goes straight down and is still flexible enough. I was able to slip it through two bends and reach up to the chimney collar on the stove. After more than a decade without sweeping (but with annual checks) there was still very little ash in the stainless steel chimney cowling. (a pleasant surprise). However, because the liner heats up quickly, it helps create draft early on, and there's very little (I almost dare say no) condensation and build-up of creosote or other nasty things as a side effect.
