Almost compressed in the form of "cylinders" in shrink film. You have to shake and shake and shake to understand the shape and then match the pillow to it. The sides of the bed have very little structure other than stitched seams, and the pillow is so "puffy" that you end up trying to turn the whole thing into some sort of bed structure. Then our 4-month-old puppy climbed in and the pillow slipped away right away - after a few days we continue! Our 10 year old Vesti climbed in and her shear weight somehow helped keep the pillow in place but she wasn't too keen on it either. I prefer the built in pillow construction, like the AKC beds - I'll come back to that. This one isn't worth the trouble.
