I used this to repair a large dent in the door. I didn't want to use the cheaper auto repair product because of the high level of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are bad for breath and general exposure, plus I had to quilt around the building. I kept thinking before I bought it that maybe it might have a slight smell like two part epoxy or superglue, but it didn't even have that. It smells very little, if at all. The key to using this to re-fix is to use a spray gun to wet the surface of the epoxy. If you don't do this, the clay will become so sticky that it can't be shaped or shaped smoothly. After spraying, the clay feels and molds almost like real clay. To get a smooth, even surface, I used a spare plastic gift card to smooth the wet surface. After several passes, the surface becomes sticky again and requires more water. But with a lot of spray you can smooth it out quite well. When you're hand modeling an art project, it's easy to get started with block molding, but the more you use it, the more residue will remain on your hands, which can cause the clay to stick to your hand as you continue modeling . leaves a stickier texture. You can repair it with a spray gun, smooth it out, etc. The drying time is very long. After about 90 minutes the clay was still very soft but changed in a way that it could stick together a bit if I still tried to smooth it out. 90 minutes is an eternity and enough time to sculpt compared to other things. After 5 hours I could still indent it and it looked like old/hard Sculpey/Fimo clay. After 10 hours she became like a stone. The consistency of the dried clay reminded me of soapstone or baked Sculpey/Fimo clay. You can cut out the pieces with a rotary knife, chisel, or rasp. Many possibilities for fine carvings. I used sandpaper to sand it down before priming and repainting the area and the dried clay was sanded smooth - no cracks or chips. I used this on a metal door but it sticks to almost anything. wood, plastic, paper, etc. Cleaning was easy. simply rubbed her hands under water to dissolve the clay and washed them again with dish soap. I can't vouch for the effects of skin exposure so I washed my hands thoroughly afterwards. I was very impressed with this stuff and glad I stumbled across this instead of going down the high VOC route! If you are wary of inhaling toxic fumes from other commercial Refix products, this is the way to go.
